What is Rose Quartz?

Rose quartz is pink quartz. Most of it is massive (it doesn't form separate crystals), and its colour comes from microscopic fibres of a pink borosilicate mineral related to dumortierite. This is why rose quartz is often slightly cloudy, and some pieces show a star effect when polished.

Rare well-formed pink quartz crystals do exist, but their colour has a different cause and can fade quickly in light. Main sources are Madagascar and Brazil; rose quartz is also the state mineral of South Dakota.

Durable (7). Clean with warm soapy water. Massive rose quartz is quite colour-stable, but it's best not to leave it in strong sun for long periods.
