What is Red Tiger's Eye?

Red tiger's eye is a red to mahogany form of tiger's eye, a quartz that replaced fibrous crocidolite and so shows a silky, moving band of light called chatoyancy. Most red tiger's eye on the market is golden tiger's eye that has been gently heat-treated, which turns its iron oxides red – natural red material also exists but is less common.
