What is Scapolite?

Scapolite is the name for a group of sodium-calcium aluminium silicates (marialite–meionite series). Gem scapolite comes in golden yellow, violet and colourless; some shows a cat's-eye effect. Many scapolites fluoresce yellow under long-wave UV. Its name comes from the Greek for "rod", describing its prism-shaped crystals.
