What is Ruby Zoisite?

Ruby zoisite, also called anyolite, is a rock of green zoisite containing opaque ruby crystals and black flecks of hornblende. It comes mainly from Longido in Tanzania, and the name anyolite comes from the Maasai word for green. Most of the rubies are too included for faceting, but the colour contrast makes it a favourite for carvings, spheres and beads.
